Two Young Adults Dead, 11 Hospitalized in Canterbury Meningitis Outbreak
A deadly outbreak of invasive meningitis has occurred in Canterbury, killing two people aged 18-21 years, including a student from the University of Kent. Currently, 11 people are admitted to the hospital in a serious condition due to this outbreak, which is suspected to have occurred due to a social event in this region. The UK Health Security Agency has contacted over 30,000 people and provided antibiotics to students living in certain blocks of university campuses as a precautionary measure against this outbreak of invasive meningitis.
Experts have stated that meningitis can cause severe symptoms such as high fever, stiff neck, and a blotchy rash, which can actually resemble flu or a hangover, and young people in close contact environments such as university campuses need to be very cautious of this outbreak of invasive meningitis.
